Water cut to enable pipeline work


THERE will be water disruption for eight hours from Jalan Permatang Rawa to Jalan Perda Utama in Penang this Saturday.

The disruption will be from 10pm on Saturday to 6am on Sunday.

Consumers in the area are advised to store sufficient water for use.

Penang Water Supply Corporation chief executive officer Datuk Jaseni Maidinsa said the water cut was to facilitate installation of a major pipeline.

“The final pipe connection work involves installing a 600mm diameter butterfly valve at Jalan Permatang Rawa.

“We must isolate and ‘shut down’ a section of the existing pipeline to conduct the physical work.

“About 2,600 water accounts will be affected by this water supply interruption, ” he said in a statement on Oct 23.

Areas that will be affected include Kampung Permatang Batu, Permatang Batu industrial area, Prominence flats, Bandar Perda Timur business area, Kampung Permatang Rawa, Permatang Rawa industrial area and Taman Riang.

The statement added that the pipe installation work is to improve and upgrade water supply to south Seberang Prai district.
