Grads find jobs via virtual career carnival

JOHOR BARU: About 600 fresh graduates have been hired through the Higher Education Ministry (MOHE) - Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Virtual Career Carnival 2020 website.

UTM Career Centre director Associate Prof Dr Osman Ibrahim said the website provided 11,602 job opportunities in 40 companies.

“The website was introduced on Oct 11 to help the graduates during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Apart from providing wider employment opportunities to UTM graduates, the website also facilitates final year students to find placements for their industrial training,” he said when contacted here.

He said the Virtual Career Carnival programme was conducted from Oct 11 to 16 to enable the students to apply for a job virtually.

“Visitors can watch the entire programme posted online at http://www.utmcareercarnival.com and apply for a job based on the listed companies and the vacancies,” he said.

He added that various contents had been compiled to expose students to the latest job market needs, including satellite programmes.

“The two satellite programmes implemented were ‘Creating a Career as a Young Entrepreneur’ presented by GetMove Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Muhamad Ziyad and ‘Communication Tips For Job Interview’ presented by Cute Carry consultant Hafiz Mustapha.

“In addition, the webinar and interview sessions were also conducted twice a day during the carnival,” he said, adding that each webinar slot could take 1,000 participants at a time.
