IT was an all-pink fundraising event during the 12th Luscious Ladies Day held in conjunction with the Breast Cancer Awareness Month at Eastern and Oriental (E&O) Hotel in Penang.
Organised by the Penang Irish Association, the event themed ‘Pump Up The Pink’ aimed to raise funds for the Mount Miriam Cancer Hospital and Penang Hospice Society.
Event co-organiser Susie Macmillan said they received over RM75,000 worth of donations in various forms of goods, beauty items and jewellery, vouchers, passes and more for the event.
“These will be auctioned off in the event through live and silent auction sessions, where guests will bid for the items.
“Despite a lower number of guests this year, we are hoping to raise at least RM50,000 through this event.
“But of course, if we are able to fully achieve the RM75,000 worth of goods from the biddings or even raise more than that, we will be very happy, ” she said at the event at the hotel ballroom recently.
Macmillan said due to the Covid-19 pandemic, only 180 guests attended the event, with many more on the waiting list.
“They were unable to attend due to the set standard operating procedures amid the pandemic.
“We usually have around 360 guests each year, but this year we had to reduce the number by half due to Covid-19.
“Even so, we are hoping to achieve the highest amount of funds possible for our fundraising as many donors have been very generous in sponsoring the items and vouchers.
“We understand that during the movement control order many businesses were affected and
some were unable to donate like in previous years.
“Yet, this did not stop many others from doing their bit. We are truly grateful for all their support, ” she added.
At the event, guests enjoyed a breakfast buffet while being entertained by on-stage shows like a fashion parade, Mr Malaysia act, live auction and booth sales of merchandise.
