PARENTS in the B40 group have been urged to apply for Penang’s childcare subsidy.

State social development committee chairman Chong Eng said Penang had identified 77 registered childcare centres that are eligible for the RM50 monthly fee subsidy.

She said a total of 1,414 children are enrolled in the centres.

“Households earning below RM5,000 monthly are eligible for the subsidy if the daycare fees are below RM500 monthly.

“The subsidy comes up to RM600 yearly and will benefit working parents.

“Applications can be done through the daycare operator, ” said Chong after visiting a daycare centre in Taman Pauh Jaya in Bukit Mertajam.

She said the aim of the subsidy was to support families and promote daycare businesses.

The subsidy will be offered in the form of deduction from the monthly childcare fee.

Present was state agrotech and food security, rural development and health committee chairman Dr Norlela Ariffin.
