Driving the spirit of celebrating responsibly

THE drive for responsible drinking is now in high gear with Carlsberg Malaysia introducing new partners to give consumers a ride home from Carlsberg outlets nationwide.

The initiative in conjunction with the brewer’s #CelebrateResponsibly campaign aims to encourage consumers to be responsible drinkers and not get behind the wheel even after just one drink.

From now until Nov 30, discounted e-hailing and chauffeur services are available from Carlsberg Malaysia’s 1,800 affiliated bars, bistros and restaurants nationwide by using the promo code CELEBRATERESPONSIBLY.

More than 5,000 discounted GrabCar and Riding Pink rides worth RM10 as well as a 10% discount on Socar Plus, LaiLah and DriveSafe rides are being offered to change consumers’ mindset and behaviour when it comes to drinking and driving.

“The spotlight on drink-driving fatalities and the stricter laws tabled for driving under the influence are sober reminders of the

consequences of irresponsible drinking,” Carlsberg Malaysia corporate affairs director Pearl Lai said during the launch at The Good Guys restaurant and bar in Publika Shopping Gallery, Kuala Lumpur.

“As a responsible brewer, we have zero tolerance towards drink-driving.

“Irresponsible drinking is not only against the spirit of responsible consumption but it is also an endangerment of public safety.

“Our message is simple – if you drink, don’t drive.

“We welcome the Road Transport (Amendment) Bill 2020 and pledge our support to the Transport Ministry in advocating no one drives under the influence.

“We hope consumers will adopt responsible drinking habits by choosing to leave their car keys behind or in the hands of a sober driver, such as our e-hailing and chauffeur partners,” she added.

This year’s campaign sees e-hailing companies Grab and Riding Pink returning to support the cause.

“In an effort to reduce road accidents caused by drunk drivers, we are thrilled to be working with Carlsberg Malaysia to eliminate these incidents and help passengers make the right choice to get home safely,” said head of Grab Malaysia transport and GrabPay marketing Hee Jenn We.

Riding Pink founder Denise Tan said the company was proud of its long-standing partnership with the brewer in promoting responsible drinking.

“With our recent expansion in Johor Baru, we aim to empower more women to celebrate responsibly by providing a women-only ride-hailing service that values convenience, privacy and personal safety,” she added.

Hopping onto the bandwagon this year are new partners Socar, Lailah and DriveSafe, catering to those within the Klang Valley.

For Socar, a 10% discount is applicable for its new Socar Plus service, which expands on its car-sharing core by adding the safety, convenience and service of a personal driver.

Socar Malaysia chief executive officer Leon Foong said it wanted to help empower road users to choose safety while enjoying a night out.

The new service allows Socar members to enjoy a chauffeur-driven night out and make unlimited stops for the whole group within a single booking.

The same promotional code also entitles users to 10% off with Lailah and DriveSafe, which provide on-demand chauffeurs to drive consumers home in their own cars.

Bookings on Lailah can be done via WhatsApp (013-496 2929 and 013-628 2929) with the app available soon, while bookings on DriveSafe can be made via DriveSafe.my or its newly-launched app.

“Lailah drivers will take you home in your own car so you do not need to go through the trouble of retrieving it the next day.

“Our services are now fully insured with live tracking systems in place and all our drivers come dressed in Lailah’s corporate uniform and ID tags, ensuring customer safety at all times,” said Lailah Malaysia public relations, communications and marketing director Datin Seri Kristine Anne Williams.

Meanwhile, DriveSafe co-founder John So said, “DriveSafe is a young company but with big plans for improved user experience and bigger service coverage.

“With experienced drivers and a user-friendly app, everyone will be able to celebrate responsibly and we thank Carlsberg Malaysia for having us in this campaign,” he added.
