POPULAR Book Co Malaysia Sdn Bhd rewarded 42 winners with prizes totalling over RM200,000 at its IPC Shopping Centre flagship store in tandem with the company’s 95th anniversary celebration.
Popular’s “Buy and Drive” contest was held from Sept 13,2019 until Jan 12 this year to reward patrons for every purchase made at its stores.
To be eligible, all participants had to do was to spend at least RM95 in a single receipt.
Once they had filled in the contest form with their details and submitted their entry to any Popular bookstore or on the Popular MY app, participants would be in the running to win the main prizes of a Perodua Aruz or Perodua Myvi.
Other prizes included Popular gift vouchers worth RM500 and Huawei P40 smartphones.
Also present at the prize presentation ceremony were Public Bank PB card services and support director Tee Chui Chee and card services of payment networks Malaysia (PayNet) director Michael Kumar.
Popular card members and those who used the wave function on their Public Bank MyDebit card received two bonus entries.
Popular Malaysia executive director Lim Lee Ngoh said this contest was the third instalment since their 80th anniversary and was a show of thanks to customers for their continued support throughout significant milestones.
“This year, we were able to give away two cars as a token of appreciation for the endless support we have received, ” she said.
The grand prize went to Ch’ng Tje-Yie, 26, an interior designer from Selangor, who was ecstatic upon receiving her new Perodua Aruz.
“I usually buy stationery from Popular for my work.
“I just joined the contest for fun without expecting anything and didn’t think I would win.
“I feel like it is a blessing from above to have won the grand prize.
“My family doesn’t even know I have won this, so it will be a surprise for them, ” she added.
The lucky first-prize winner was Kartina Ghani, 40, who received a Perodua Myvi.
Hailing from Sabah, she was accompanied by her husband for the prize-giving ceremony.
“I usually go to Popular with my children to buy books.
“It just so happened that they were holding the contest last year when we were there, so we submitted our entry.
“I was so surprised and overjoyed when I found out I had won because it was the first time we had won a car in a competition.
“I never dreamed that we would win!” she said.
“I plan to let my children use this car in the future when they are old enough to drive, ” she added.
Zalkartini Mohd Nor, 39, was one of the lucky second-prize winners of a Huawei P40.
The nurse from Cheras was grateful to have won a new smartphone.
“I always go to Popular to get the books I need, and I now have even more reason to do so.
“Hopefully, I will win other contests in the future, ” she said.
