Chambers of commerce commemorate Malaysia Day

Rumaizi, Liew and Khoo were among those who waved the Jalur Gemilang while singing Negaraku during the PCCCI Malaysia Day celebration at Ipoh Padang.

PERAK Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCCI) held a low-key celebration to commemorate Malaysia Day.

The ceremony at Ipoh Padang on Sept 16 was attended by about 30 people, including PCCCI president Datuk Liew Sew Yee, Ipoh mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin and city councillor Tony Khoo.

In his speech, Rumaizi said the younger generation must never forget the sacrifices made by their forefathers.

“It is important to commemorate those who have worked hard to achieve independence.“It is the people’s responsibility to defend the country’s independence, strengthen unity and maintain prosperity,” he said.

Rumaizi noted that following the formation of Malaysia, the country had seen much development in various fields including education, transportation, communication and socio-economy.

“This would not have been possible without the commitment of all parties including the public and private sectors,” he said.
