MIRI: Children below 12 years old and the elderly above 60 years old are urged to keep away from crowded places statewide.

The Sarawak Disaster Relief Management Committee has issued the advisory in view of the fact that crowds are seen in many places again, including cinemas.

“Parents are strongly advised to also keep their children away from public markets.

“These are extra precautions against Covid-19 infections, ” said the committee.

Cinemas reopened on Aug 1 and some patrons were seen bringing their children, including toddlers, along to watch movies.

In Miri, children are banned by the local council from entering the native tamu (market) and wet markets in the district.

Miri City Council also enforces the mandatory use of face mask for all customers and traders at these markets.

Sarawak reported 19 Covid-19 related deaths and some 700 positive cases so far. Miri recorded two deaths and 25 positive cases so far.
