Collection of tithes in Pahang on track

KUANTAN: Collection of tithes in Pahang is still on track despite the economic uncertainties caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Regent of Pahang Tengku Mahkota Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah Ibni Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah said collection had even seen a 1.5% increase during the first half of the year compared to the same period last year.

A total of 81,104 property tithe contributors paid RM81.4mil as of Aug 31.

The largest contributor was from the salary deduction sector with RM41.1mil and payments from corporate bodies and the business sector at RM20mil.

Tengku Hassanal also accepted RM12.8mil from eight institutions and corporate bodies in a ceremony held at Istana Abdul Aziz here.

Lembaga Tabung Haji contributed RM4.72mil, followed by the National Farmers Organisation (RM3.1mil), Tenaga Nasional Berhad (RM2.37mil), Bank Rakyat Group (RM1.03mil), Bank Pembangunan Malaysia Berhad (RM834,000), Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad (RM365,000), QSR Brands Malaysia Holdings Berhad (RM259,027) and Bank Muamalat Malaysia Berhad (RM160,577).

“With the support of corporate bodies and the public, the state zakat collection centre is expected to meet the collection target of RM150mil and 95,000 contributors for 2020, ” Tengku Hassanal, who is the Pahang Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council president, said in a statement.

To achieve the target, he said the collection centre had identified five main categories to be implemented such as Z-Barakah (income tithe), Z-Tijari (business tithe) and Z-Smart (ICT applications).

Tengku Hassanal said besides that, the centre was committed to implementing the “Wajib Taksir Zakat” programme by sending out income tithe assessment forms to 30,361 permanent staff in Pahang.

He said the increase in tithes collection would be enjoyed by the needy through distribution by the council.
