MPS seizes illegal cigarettes and liquor

Officers checking liquor bottles during the joint operation.

ALMOST 2,000 contraband cigarette boxes were seized by Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) and Gombak police during a joint operation.

Enforcement officers also confiscated 610 unlicensed liquor bottles during a check of business premises in Gombak, Selayang, Rawang, Kundang and Bandar Tasik Puteri.

MPS Corporate Communications director Mohamad Zin Masoad said that during the same operation, police also apprehended 23 foreign nationals for not having valid work permits.

“We issued 13 compounds under Section 3(1) of the Food Establishment Licensing Bylaw 2007 to the offenders for carrying out activities without a licence.

“We also found out that these premises did not have the proper excise licence from the Gombak Land and District Office, ” he said in a statement.

Mohamad Zin added that such enforcement operations would be continuously carried out and that stern action would be taken against owners of premises who did not comply with regulations.
