ULTRA Clean Holdings Inc (UCT), a United States-headquartered company and a leading supplier of critical subsystems for the semiconductor industry, will be setting up a plant in Batu Kawan, Penang,
The company’s new manufacturing facility will be its latest, adding to its existing sites in the United States, Singapore, China, Czech Republic and the Philippines.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said construction on a 340,000sq ft lot would begin at the end of the year and the plant would create 650 jobs over the next five years, including in manufacturing, engineering, research and development as well as quality management.
“UCT recorded a total critical subsystems revenue of US$11bil in 2019, ” said Chow at a press conference at Komtar recently.
“The company’s strategic investment here shows that Penang has gained momentum in attracting investments from leading players in the front-end equipment global supply chain.”
Chow said the major investment was a milestone in Penang’s industrial transformation journey and would translate into technology and economic spillover.
He said that from 2010 to 2020, Penang attracted RM58.5bil approved manufacturing investments from industries.
