KUCHING: Over half of 78,123 B40 households in Sarawak have received the latest monthly payment under the Bantuan Khas Sarawakku Sayang (BKSS) special economic package.
In a statement, the state Economic Planning Unit (EPU) said 43,481 eligible households with a bank account were paid RM250 through their respective banks on July 29, with the estimated expenditure totalling RM10.87mil.
The remaining 34,642 households who do not have a bank account can claim their cash payments from Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) starting Aug 7.
Under the BKSS package, B40 households earning below RM4,000 a month will receive a monthly cash payout of RM250 from the state government for six months starting April.
The package was announced in March to mitigate the impact of Covid-19 and protect the wellbeing of Sarawakians.
The state EPU also said 218,489 out of 270,863 B40 single Sarawakians received a one-off assistance of RM500 through their bank accounts on July 29.
Likewise, it said the remaining 52,374 eligible recipients who do not have a bank account can claim cash payments from BSN from Aug 7.
Single Sarawakians aged 21 and above who earn below RM2,000 a month are eligible for the one-off assistance under BKSS.
However, the state EPU said over 100,000 recipients were no longer eligible for the BKSS household assistance as they were now listed as singles in the Inland Revenue Board’s updated Bantuan Sara Hidup (BSH) 2020 list.
“There were complaints from a small number of B40 household recipients that they were no longer receiving BKSS assistance for July even though they received it in April to June.
“This is because there are 115,450 recipients who were previously in the BHS 2019 B40 household list but are now in the BSH 2020 B40 singles list.
“These B40 singles will therefore no longer be eligible to receive the same monthly assistance for B40 households, ” the state EPU said.
