Flood incidents spiked in July

The back lane of houses in Taman Kinrara, Puchong flooded after a downpour.

Floods are a frequent occurrence in Malaysia during the rainy season. Unusually for July, several areas in the Klang Valley were hit hard by floods.

The floods have mostly been attributed to abnormally heavy rain or continuous downpour over a long period of time. Below are some of the major incidents in the past month.

> Heavy rain on July 18 caused flash floods in five Selangor districts, namely Hulu Langat, Sepang, Hulu Selangor, Gombak and Klang. Hulu Langat was the worst affected with 22 locations flooded while Sepang saw 12 areas submerged. There were four affected areas in Hulu Selangor, two in Gombak and one in Klang. In Kajang, the water level reached almost a metre. The affected areas were Kampung Sungai Jernih, Kampung Asrah, Kampung Batu 14, Taman Muhibbah, Jalan Reko, Sungai Chua and Sungai Jernih.
