Two major events on Penang Hill cancelled

THE Penang Hill Heritage Forest Challenge and Trash Free Hill events slated for Aug 23 and Sept 27 respectively have been cancelled.

Penang Hill Corporation (PHC), in a statement, said both annual events would resume next year, and the new dates would be announced at a later date.

“Since its inaugural event in 2014, Penang Hill Heritage Forest Challenge has earned a reputation as an athletic event that attracts numerous thrill seekers and avid runners.

“The aim of this event is to promote Penang Hill as an ecotourism destination as well as raise awareness of environment conservation and heritage preservation in Penang Hill.

“Meanwhile, Trash Free Hill has become a popular plogging event that has attracted many experienced hikers since it started in 2018.

“Its objective is to help protect and preserve Penang Hill and its water catchment areas, and to increase public awareness towards keeping Penang Hill clean and rubbish-free.”

PHC said as the Covid-19 pandemic had resulted in all major tourism events in Penang being cancelled or postponed, both events had to be cancelled to align with the state government’s decision.
