TANGKAK: Johor government has spent more than RM31mil in helping the needy during the Covid-19 pandemic, through its Bantuan Ihsan Johor programme.
Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Hasni Mohammad said the state had always welcomed the Federal Government’s efforts and commitment to revive the economy through the Prihatin programme.
“In Johor, we have followed the example set by Putrajaya through our own Bantuan Ihsan Johor initiative.
“We have spent RM31.3mil in the first and second series of this programme, ” he said in his speech during a meet-the-people session at Dewan Serbaguna Bukit Gambir here.
Also present at the event was Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and his wife Puan Sri Norainee Abdul Rahman as well as other local leaders.
Muhyiddin is the assemblyman for Gambir.
Hasni said the Bantuan Ihsan Johor programme saw cash aid and food items given out not only to those from the B40 group and the unemployed but also to those from the M40 group who were finding it hard to make ends meet and feed their families during the movement control order (MCO).
“The pandemic has caused difficult times for many like never before in the country’s history, ” he said.
On another matter, he said the state government would give its full cooperation to bring development to Pagoh parliamentary and Gambir state constituencies.
“Even though the state is facing challenges now due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the government will ensure development plans are carried out.
“Our Prime Minister is serious about ensuring development in Pagoh through the establishment of the Pagoh Education Hub there, and we will cooperate.
“In Gambir, I have been briefed about creating an economic development area here known as Gambir Industrial Park. The state government will help realise this plan, ” said Hasni.
