FOR supervisor T. Sugendharan, donating blood is a noble way to pay it forward without spending a sen.
Living by this adage since 2005, the 46-year-old donates blood every three months.
“I am not a rich man and cannot donate money or things but I do have blood and am allowed to donate every three months, ” he said when met at the Tanjung
MIC blood donation and organ pledging campaign at a mall in Penang.
“This is my way of helping someone in need.
“I lose nothing from this and in fact, it has made me healthier as I need to watch my food intake and health.
“Donating blood is important and something I want to do regularly.”
A blood donor for the 73rd time, Sugendharan encouraged those in the pink of health to donate blood as well.
“I feel good each time after donating blood.
“You have the ability to save a life and that is special, ” he said.
Tanjung MIC division coordinator J. Dhinagaran said the
blood donation drive was jointly organised with Prangin Mall in aid of the state blood bank.
“We have been organising blood donation drives a few times a year and this is our first this year, ” said Dhinagaran.
“The support has been great as we see people from all backgrounds coming in to donate blood.
“It is part of our service to the community.
“We have come across people who want to donate blood but are afraid to go to the hospital.
“They know they are safe here. We give donors a certificate.
“They can also pledge to donate their organs, ” he said.
