Incentives for tourism industry players

JOHOR BARU: The state government has announced an incentive to help tourism industry players affected by the Covid-19 outbreak.

Johor tourism, youth and sports committee chairman Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said the government would give a one-off incentive of RM1,000 each to the 936 licensed tour guides in the state.

He said this was one of the incentives declared under the Johor Ihsan Economic Stimulus Package to lighten the burden of those involved in the tourism industry.

He said other incentives included an exemption on business licence payments to companies involved in tourism and the hotel industry besides exemption on entertainment tax for theme parks and family entertainment centres for the year.

“The payment exemption for tour companies and hotels involves an estimated RM894,211.

“This will benefit 1,031 business licence holders while the exemption on entertainment tax for theme parks and family entertainment centres involves RM3mil, ” he said, adding the state government was also in the process of structuring short-term and long-term plans to help the tourism industry recover post Covid-19.“

It is hoped that all these incentives will help the tourism industry players and regenerate tourism and services sectors in Johor, ” he said.
