SMJK Yuk Choy Ipoh’s board of governors has set up the Foong Swee Khow Higher Education Study Loan to fund higher education for underprivileged students.
A school spokesman said the loan was to provide financial aid to former students of the school who completed their secondary education there.
“The applicant needs to have been accepted and enrolled as an undergraduate in a higher learning institution either in Malaysia or abroad.
“They must also excel academically, be of good conduct and are active in co-curricular activities besides showing keenness to pursue higher studies, ” the spokesman said in a statement.
“They can apply even if they have obtained loans from another organisation, ” he added.
The loan was possible after former student Foong Swee Khow donated RM200,000 during the school’s 57th anniversary dinner in November last year, revealed the spokesman.
“A successful applicant shall in an academic year receive a sum of loan to meet tuition fees required for that year, ” he explained.
“The total sum of the loan shall not exceed RM20,000 for the whole course.
“Those who wish to apply can get the application form from the school office between 8am and 1pm or request for it by post or via email from firstname.lastname@example.org, ” he said.
Application is open until Sept 30.
