THE volunteers of Penang Wadda Gurdwara Sahib (WGS) who have been helping the needy and homeless received RM15,000 from the private sector and Penang Sikh Association.

State executive councillor Jagdeep Singh Deo said that during the Covid-19 outbreak, the volunteers supported 359 families of all races and helped organisations such as the Jawatankuasa Pemulihan Dadah Timur Laut and Community Aids Service centre.

“The volunteers prepared breakfast, lunch and dinner for the homeless at Caring Society Complex and Lighthouse Drop-in Centre.

“They also gave bread, biscuits and mineral water to the needy.

“Since the movement control order (MCO) was enforced on March 18, WGS has prepared 7,450 packets of vegetarian food for the needy and they are still doing it, ” said Jagdeep.

He was speaking after presenting RM15,000 to WGS at the Wadda Gurdwara Sahib Penang in Jalan Gurdwara.

Jagdeep said the private sector contributed RM10,000 while the Penang Sikh Association gave RM5,000.

He said the WGS had also been providing counselling to those suffering from stress and anxiety with aid from doctors, nurses and mental health organisations such as the Women’s Centre for Change.
