Cinemas still in good condition

SEVERAL pictures of mouldy cinema seats and walkways have caused a stir on social media.

It is believed that this situation was caused by cinemas closing due to the movement control order (MCO) which was implemented on March 18.

Golden Screen Cinemas Sdn Bhd (GSC) public relations and branding manager Sharmine Ishak said the pictures of mouldy cinemas that were circulated on social media were not of any GSC theatre.

“We have not left our cinemas unattended since day one of the MCO and we follow a stringent set of guidelines to maintain them, ” said Sharmine in a phone interview on Tuesday.

“On alternate days, we ventilate our cinemas.

“We turn on the air-conditioner to circulate the air for a few hours as well as carry out mould and fungal checks across all halls and seats.”

Sharmine added that several employees were assigned to warm up and run the projectors to maintain the equipment.

“As we are not operating right now, it is imperative that we take even more care of our cinemas and keep them in good condition.

“We will be ready to welcome audiences back when it is time to open, ” he said.
