Mrs Malaysia World 2019/2020 winner Priyaa Simmi partnered with Kitafund, a crowdfunding platform.
Priya said during the movement control order (MCO) period, many families were in need of help to manage their daily expenses, especially large households.
“The lives of daily wage earners have become worse as many do not have an income during the MCO.
“I can imagine the difficulties the underprivileged have to put food on the table, so this is why it is important for us to support them,” said Priyaa, who has always been inspired by her father in her charitable efforts.
She is also thankful to have a supportive husband, Saineethian Murugiah.
The 25-year-old was first exposed to charity when her father started Persatuan Kebajikan Sai Malaysia in 2012 which aimed to help underprivileged women gain financial independence.
“I have seen the plight of the poor from a young age as many would ask my father for help.”
Priyaa, who won the Mrs Malaysia World 2019/2020 pageant last November, is aware that the title comes with responsibilities.
“I plan to use it as a platform to empower others and to uplift the socioeconomic wellbeing of the underprivileged and marginalised.
“There is nothing like seeing joy on the faces of those we have helped,” said Priyaa. — By RANDEEP SINGH
