PENANG durian sellers are now delivering the fruit to stay-at-home customers.
State tourism, arts, culture and heritage committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin said this service would allow durian fans to savour the king of fruits without having to leave their houses.
“Usually, during the durian season, many people will make their way to Balik Pulau and Seberang Prai to enjoy the much sought-after fruit.
“The durian season used to attract many tourists to Penang.
“One of tourism’s most important aspects is the revenue generated for Penangites in the travel business.
“However, tourism has been affected by the pandemic and the revenue from selling durians is drying up, ” he said recently.
Yeoh encouraged durian sellers who had yet to offer the delivery service to consider promoting their service on social media.
“Through social media which acts as a promotion platform, people can support our durian sellers and farmers during this MCO period without having to leave their homes, ” he said, adding that this alternative would help locals earn an income. – Bernama
