AYER HITAM: Ayer Hitam MP Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong expressed gratitude to those who donated to help the needy in his constituency.
Dr Wee, who is also Transport Minister, said 1,565 packs of basic necessities were donated to the underprivileged in Ayer Hitam through his service centre.
“Besides individual donors, the Welfare Department donated 200 packs of dry food aid.
“The donations enable us to help more people who are in need during the movement control order (MCO), ” he said in a statement.
He added that farmers, fruits and vegetables suppliers and wholesalers had also come forward to help by donating their produce.
“Fruits and vegetables were distributed to those living in the rural areas as well as those in the B40 category.
“The donations have helped reduce the burden of those in need.
“It is at times like this that the spirit of caring for the community surfaces, ” said Dr Wee.
Apart from food aid, he has also given out face masks to the public here.
“So far we have provided 30,000 face masks to some 10,000 families.
“We are now appealing for more donations to help more people in Ayer Hitam, ” he said, adding that his team had distributed personal protective equipment (PPE) and medical supplies to frontliners at Hospital Sultanah Nora Ismail in Batu Pahat, , two health clinics in Yong Peng and Yong Peng police station.
“We will continue our efforts in supporting frontliners, ” said Dr Wee.
He said those in need of aid could contact his service centre.
“I also urge the public in Ayer Hitam to cooperate with the authorities, abide by the MCO and stay at home for their own safety, ” he said.
