THE PENANG state legislative assembly will be held as a half-day session at 9.30am at Dewan Sri Pinang in George Town tomorrow amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

State Assembly Speaker Datuk Law Choo Kiang said Yang di-Pertua Negri Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas would deliver the opening speech, but there would not be any ceremony such as guard of honour inspection.

“Disinfection procedures will be carried out prior to the half-day assembly session following the advice of the state Health Department.

“Those entering will be screened and their body temperature will be checked.

“Social distancing will be practised throughout the session.

“The seating arrangement of those attending will also be announced, ” he said in a statement.

Law said the session would be attended only by state assemblymen and state government ex officio — State Secretary, State Financial Officer and State Legal Adviser.

“The session will also be broadcast live via the Penang State Legislative Assembly website for the media and public to follow.

“Please be informed that oral questions raised by state assemblymen will be answered in writing, ” he said.

Law said Abdul Rahman’s speech would be followed by Opposition Leader Datuk Muhamad Yusoff Mohd Noor’s speech.

“Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow would then deliver his speech before the session is adjourned, ” he said.
