The MPs said they were coordinating with Rela, the Welfare Department (JKM) and district offices to ensure that no one in need was left out during this challenging times and that they had enough essential supplies such as rice, flour, sugar and other items.
Pengerang MP Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said said 979 families from 37 villages received food aid under the Pengerang Prihatin Programme.
“We hope the aid given out will help these families cope during the current situation, especially for those who have lost their source of income. The aid has also been given to 10 Felda villages in Pengerang as well as 405 families of frontliners,” she said.
Some of the villages involved are Kampung Sungai Layau, Kampung Pasir Gogok, Kampung Sungai Rengit, Kampung Punggai, Kampung Tanjung Surat, Kampung Belungkor, Kampung Linting and Kampung Tanjung Serindit.
Kulai MP Teo Nie Ching said some 1,000 people were screened by JKM for aid to be distributed.
“JKM will provide the foodstuff and village chiefs will distribute to those identified.
“The aid is now being distributed in phases to 100 families,” she said.
Parit Sulong MP Datuk Noraini Ahmad is also using this method to help those affected by the MCO.
She has transformed her community service centre into a food storage premises.
“The daily necessities are stored at the centre and their distribution to those in need throughout the Parit Sulong constituency is handled by Rela.
“So far we have given aid to some 3,500 families,” she said, adding that the distributions were based on JKM’s database.
Tebrau MP Steven Choong said he had given out food aid to more than 800 families in the area.
“The recipients are going through hard times and asked for help,” he said.
