THE Federal Territories Ministry will set up a special committee comprising experts from the development, legal and construction fields to discuss the development of Kampung Baru.
Its minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa said based on a meeting this morning with Kampung Baru Development Corporation management, there were major complications that had not been shared with the public, including the fact that only 61% of Kampung Baru landowners and their next-of kin had agreed with the present settlement offer.
“About 40% – a substantial number – did not agree. If this figure remains, this is the first thing that should be addressed as we cannot go ahead with a plan that they do not agree to.
“There are also other problems, including its legality, and the most important is who will develop Kampung Baru.
“There is no fund and at least a whopping RM7bil is needed to buy over the land if the people agreed.
“Many details need to be ironed out and I need time to gather feedback.
“We must do something suitable to ensure the landowners and their next-of kin benefit from the development of their land, in line with the development of the city, ” he said at an online press conference on Friday (April 3).
