Seeking to foster unity in diversity

THE Unity Forum to be held at Dewan Sri Pinang on Saturday morning is expected to attract at least 800 people.

Penang Consultative Goodwill Council chairman Tan Sri Mohd Yussof Latiff said various activities aiming to foster harmonious ties would be held during the five-hour event from 8am to 1pm.

Themed ‘Unity In Diversity’, the forum will be held in conjunction with the council’s 17th anniversary celebration.

“It will be officiated by Yang di-Pertua Negri Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas.

“The panellists are Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal Tan Sri Syed Danial Syed Ahmad, Governance, Integrity and Anti-Corruption Centre deputy director-general Datuk Dr Anis Yusal Yusoff and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia’s Institute of Ethnic Studies principal research fellow Prof Datuk Dr Denison Jayasooria,” he said during a press conference at the Penang Malay Association (Pemenang) in Jalan Pemenang.

“Also on the panel is Institute of Ethnic Studies director Prof Datuk Dr Shamsul Amri Baharuddin,” he added.

Mohd Yussof also announced that Gua Musang MP Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah would be delivering the closing remarks at the forum.

He added that Tengku Razaleigh would speak on ‘Social Contract: The Unique Basis of the Malaysian Constitution’.

Apart from the talks and discussions, there will also be a host of other activities such as cultural exhibitions, calligraphy demonstrations and portraiture showcases.

Admission to the event is free and on a walk-in basis.
