KUALA TERENGGANU: The Terengganu government is aiming to increase the number of Malaysian Halal Verification Certificate (SPHM) holders to 300 premises and products by the end of this year.
There are currently 220 SPHM holders.
State entrepreneurship, micro industry and hawker affairs committee deputy chairman Wan Hapandi Wan Nik said the state government was confident the target would be achieved through planning and promotion efforts to help product developers and business owners obtain the SPHM.
“In fact, Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) also offers special initiatives for new entrepreneurs to apply for or renew their certificates with 90% of the halal certification fee borne by it.
“Apart from Mara, we also have strategic partners in the Terengganu Entrepreneurs Development Secretariat who will assist and provide entrepreneurs with the opportunity to acquire the SPHM to make their business products and services more competitive and consumer-friendly, ” he said when launching a Terengganu exclusive halal enhancement seminar here.
