THE Housing and Local Government Ministry’s Heng Ong Huat, Gongsi Fa Cai 2020 event was held almost a month after Chinese New Year but the large crowd still showed plenty of festive spirit.
Some 650 people from 15 non-governmental organisations and their family members were feted with food and entertainment during the belated get-together at the Alam Indah Banquet Hall in Hutton Lane, Penang.
They enjoyed performances by a lion dance-cum-Chinese war drum troupe during the gathering on Friday.
Ex-minister Zuraida Kamaruddin was not around as she had an important meeting to attend in Kuala Lumpur but she was represented by her political secretary Nor Hizwan Ahmad.
Also enjoying the merry atmosphere were state health, agriculture and agro-based industries and rural development committee chairman Dr Afif Bahardin, Kulim assemblyman Yeo Kean Chuan and Penang Gerakan secretary Hng Chee Wey.
Event organising chairman Mohd Azlan Hyder Ali said in his opening speech that Malaysians had a lot to be thankful for as the people were living in a time of peace.
“Malaysia’s strength and success come from the maturity of its citizens who work hard and hand-in-hand for this achievement.
“All races are living in harmony in this nation because they respect each other, ” said Mohd Azlan, adding that he hoped the country’s peace would continue for a long time to come.
