Council to act against errant contractors

SIBU: Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) has warned contractors to stop dumping their construction waste at illegal dumpsites or face action.

Its chairman Clarence Ting said the council has discovered 10 illegal dumpsites with construction waste.He added that the illegal dumpsites were located in Lorong Mahsuri, Jalan Taza, Lane 14 Bukit Lima Timur, Jalan Kapor (two areas), Jalan Teku Lama, Unicity area, Jalan Trusan, Jalan Bahagia and Old airport runway.

Ting said the council was incurring costs clearing the dumpsites, only for the culprits to continue dumping again.

“We are going to take serious action against contractors caught dumping their waste illegally.

“We will not let them get away with their irresponsible action, ” he said during a full council meeting.

Ting advised contractors to dump waste at the Kemuyang public landfill.

He also said SMC was accepting digital payment for its services through Sarawak Pay and Maybank. — By ANDY CHUA
