Site of fire out of bounds to the public

SIBU: Fire victims from Rumah Dingon Medong in Sekuau scheme are advised not to go near the site to search for their belongings.

Dalat district police chief DSP Saga Chunggat warned that the area was not safe.

“The fire is also still being investigated and we do not want the public to enter the area,” he said.

Saga said the victims who have lost their personal documents could instead make a police report.

“We advise all affected residents to make a report at Stapang police station to facilitate documentation of important documents that were destroyed, including other losses,” he said after visiting the fire site.

In the incident on Tuesday, 222 residents of the longhouse were left homeless after their 22-door longhouse was razed to the ground.

However, no fatalities or injuries were reported in the incident.

Among those who visited the fire site were Selangau district officer Inting Nyamai and Sibu district police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit.
