PENANG Development Corporation (PDC) will look into changing its ways and management operations from this year, said general manager Datuk Mohd Bazid Abd Kahar.

He said the corporation wanted to look into new opportunities to yield income and to aid the state government.

“This will be a challenging year so we have to make changes to certain things, ” he said at the PDC Chinese New Year celebration at the PDC building in Bayan Lepas.

“We are essential to the state as we have the responsibility of executing projects to provide returns and ensure stability.

“The green agenda is an important element.

“One of our projects – Bandar Cassia in Batu Kawan – is now an eco-city after efforts put in by PDC and the local council.

“So this is a stepping stone for us and all developments from now on will be based on the green agenda.”

Mohd Bazid said that to earn revenue, PDC might look into joint ventures plus redevelopment of housing and industrial areas.

PDC Chinese New Year celebration organising chairperson Lim Swee See said they were looking forward to a fruitful Year of Rat.

“The Rat is the first animal in the 12-year zodiac cycle and this year is a restart of the rotation, ” said Lim.

“We believe 2020 will be a year of new opportunities, ” he said.

He added that this Chinese New Year, PDC donated RM600 each to five needy families in Batu Maung, Bayan Lepas, Berapit, Rifle Range and Relau.

“A total of RM400 cash with RM200 worth of groceries including oil, rice and cookies were given to each family.”
