MORE than 150 press members attended the media appreciation night hosted by Penang DAP at Royale Chulan Hotel in George Town.

Some of the attendees sportingly put on their school uniforms to go with the event’s theme ‘Back to School’.

Penang DAP chairman Chow Kon Yeow and secretary cum senator Lim Hui Ying also doubled up as ‘school heads’ as they went around the ballroom with a cane in their hands.

Chow, together with several state party leaders also sang several Cantonese numbers.

He said politicians and media members must help each other in disseminating the right information to the masses.

“We must work together and in the course of doing that, we must respect and help each other,” he said.

Chow also presented appreciation plaques to about 20 representatives of various media agencies during the recent event.

He also tossed yee sang with other Penang DAP leaders, including Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Steven Sim, who is also Penang DAP publicity secretary and representatives of media organisations.

The evening started with karaoke sessions where members of the media showed off their vocal prowess.

Bernama journalist Jeffrey Goh Kok Guan outshone the rest with his performances on Lou Bega’s Mambo Number 5 and Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance.

His energetic performance led others to join him on stage for some ‘serious’ dancing.

Beside enjoying a sumptuous buffet meal, most of the media members also took home lucky draw prizes.
