Sculptures of a dragon and rats are among the colourful decorations at d’Tempat Country Club in Bandar Sri Sendayan.

THIS Lunar New Year, the foyer of d’Tempat Country Club in Bandar Sri Sendayan, Negri Sembilan, has been transformed into a fantastical “ocean kingdom” with coral reefs, fish, an 8ft dragon as well as seven large rat sculptures. The ocean-themed showcase encompasses a magical underwater world, including huge pearl oysters, corals and fish.

A host of activities have been lined up to welcome the Year of the Rat and the Ocean Kingdom is open to the public on Feb 1 and 2 from 3pm to 10pm.

Matrix Concepts Holdings Bhd chief marketing officer Lim Kok Yee said the festive showcase was a great way to kick off the year.

“While this is the Year of the Rat, we decided to go with the underwater theme as the dragon — an auspicious symbol in Chinese mythology — inhabits the depths of the sea.

“The Ocean Kingdom brings these underwater elements to life and kicks off the Year of the Rat, ” he said.

A massive aquarium measuring 10ft in diameter showcases three sharks with

feedings by a Scuba Fortune God at 4pm and 7pm on both evenings.

Another highlight is the acrobatic lion dance, which will be staged at 5pm on Feb 1.

Other activities during the two days include workshops such as seashell-icing, sea dragon puppet-making as well as fun games like yuan bao-stacking and buzz wire rat.

Other events include a wushu display and LED waist drum showcase, both on Feb 1, and a Chinese music ensemble and war drum performance on Feb 2. Admission is free.
