ONE World Hotel in Petaling Jaya welcomed the Year of the Rat by showcasing a traditional lion dance performance.

Hotel general manager Chris Niuh said it was the hotel’s tradition to bring in a lion dance troupe on the fourth day of Chinese New Year, to bless the premises with good luck and fortune.

“There is lunch to give the company good fortune and luck.

“The owners also give out ang pow packets to employees and guests at the lobby, ” added Niuh. The event started with a thrilling performance by the Khuan Loke Dragon and Lion Dance Association troupe.

Prancing and jumping from pole to pole, and accompanied by the thunderous beat of gongs, drums and cymbals, the 30-minute show left the audience in awe.

The troupe then blessed the hotel’s administration offices, restaurants, function room and reception area before completing its final show at the hotel’s main entrance.

It also presented a “platter of prosperity” comprising mandarin oranges, bananas, pineapple, pomelo and green lettuce as a symbol of fortune and luck for the hotel’s matriarch and families.

The finale was the lighting up of two 8ft firecrackers.
