IT IS the Year of the Rat and those born under this zodiac sign are ready to have a blast in the next 12 months.

SJK(C) Shang Wu pupils and twins Lee Kar Yuan and Lee Kar Kheng, both 12, are hoping for a Lunar New Year celebration filled with joy and merriment.

“We hope to usher in Chinese New Year with lots of ang pow from our relatives, ” said Kar Yuan, the younger of the twins when met at their school in Jalan Ayer Itam, Penang.

Kar Kheng hoped to make more friends this year.

“This is our last year here so I want to have fond memories to take with me to secondary school next year, ” he said.

Both brothers, who love to play badminton, wished to better their game.

“We enjoy playing badminton and hope to represent the state, ” Kar Kheng said.

Their schoolmate Kelsy Tan Khai Xi, 12, hoped everything would turn out smoothly when she sits for the Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR).

“It is a new decade and coincidentally, we are born in the rat year.

“I am aiming for 8As, hope my dream will come true, ” she said.

Jensern Lim also hoped for good results in the UPSR this year.

“I hope I can get 8As. I pray this will be a good year for my family and I, ” he added.

Joining in the festive celebrations were their schoolmates S. Vaishavi, T. Thanushree and Nur Nazriena Nasir, all 12.

Vaishavi, who is also targeting 8As for the UPSR, was excited to see the bright decorations and outfits for Chinese New Year.
