Being a loyal listener of 988 and its annual Chinese New Year album, 27-year-old Darren Lim was overjoyed when he won a copy of the Chinese language radio station’s limited-edition festive album.

Lim was among 10 participants who battled it out in dances and catwalk performances to win the CD during 988’s festive promotional tour finale at Sunway Velocity Mall in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur.

“I was so excited to win the CD, and the songs this year have a different vibe to them. They are slightly more modern, something I can relate to.

“It was fun playing games with the deejays, ” Lim said, adding that he had been listening to 988’s CNY songs faithfully for the past 12 years. “I like all 988 deejays but if I were to choose one, I admire Chan Fong and his segment City Heartbeat, ” he said.

Lim also won a festive bowl and cutlery as well as RM188 cash.

Another winner, Ayumi Choo, said, “I came here with the intention of getting up close with the deejays and 988 crew.

“I also wanted to catch the cast of the 988 CNY movie The Moment of Happiness, which features several deejays as well as Malaysian-born Hong Kong star Mimi Chu.

“I will be watching the movie with my family, ” she said.

The album by 988 features five songs, four of which are new tracks — Sweet Sweet Good Year, It’s New Year, Auspicious Greetings as well as Perfect Moment which was composed by DJ Brandon Chew.

There is also a medley comprising songs from the past 11 albums, entitled 988 Super Celebration.

With this being the Year of the Rat, 988’s festive campaign “Sweet Sweet Good Year” also includes a cute mouse named Sugar.

During the event, 988 cruisers gave away freebies to the public while deejays Chan Fong, Emily Yap, Chloe Loh, Brandon Chew, Danny One, Cassey Soo, Fish Poh, Chrystina Ng, Juin Too, PM Wang, Cynthia Tan and Denise Chua engaged in interactive games and performed songs at the main atrium of the mall.

The exclusive strategic partner for the 988 CNY campaign, Yee Lee Corporation, gave out its flagship cooking oil brands Red Eagle, SunLico or Neuvida to participating fans.

The event ended with a photo session with 988 listeners and an autograph session with the deejays.

The public can also catch The Moment of Happiness at cinemas nationwide starting today.
