BOYISH-looking actor Tul Pakorn drew the loudest cheer from the crowd as he went onstage to join his fellow cast members during the premiere of their movie, A Moment Of Happiness.

The Thai personality attended the event held at MM Cineplexes in Petaling Jaya, along with the movie’s other stars such as Min Chen Lin, Chan Fong, Danny One, Thian Siew Kim, Happy Polla, Mimi Chu and Siu Yam-Yam.

The comedy, which features personalities from Malaysia, Thailand and Hong Kong, is produced by Lomo Pictures and directed by Tai Min Hwee.

Local Chinese language radio station 988, which is part of the Star Media Radio Group, is the movie’s strategic partner and co-producer.

988 head Woo Bee Ay said the movie marked the radio station’s second collaboration with Lomo Pictures, after 2018’s full-length feature film called A House of Happiness.

“Both are movies released during the Chinese New Year festive season, though they are unrelated.

“A Moment Of Happiness features five of our announcers in supporting roles — Chan Fong, Danny One, Cassey Soo, Chrystina Ng and Fish Poh,” she said, adding that the movie roles showcased a different side of the DJs.

Woo described A Moment Of Happiness as a fun, light-hearted, family-friendly movie, with subtitles included for those who do not understand Chinese.

“The movie’s storyline about a young girl who has to keep up with an online persona that is a complete contrast from her real-world situation is something we can probably relate to,” said Woo.

“There are also several funny scenes, such as when Chan Fong’s character learns how to speak Thai but ends up learning foul language.”

She shared that one of the songs from the movie, entitled It’s New Year (Xin Nian Yo), is featured in 988’s new festive album Sweet Sweet Good Year (Sweet Sweet Guo Hao Nian).

Among those present at the event were Star Media Group chairman Datuk Fu Ah Kiow, Star Media Group chief executive officer Andreas Vogiatzakis, representatives and guests of the movie’s sponsors, as well as fans who won tickets to catch the premiere screening.

“The 988 DJs are a really talented group of professionals,” said Vogiatzakis in his speech.

“Not only do they accompany listeners across the airwaves, they can also sing and act.”

He said the positive response from maiden movie A House of Happiness spurred 988 to work with Lomo Pictures again for the second film.

“The first movie grossed RM2mil at the local box office and received the Best Cantonese Film award at the Maple Leaf Awards held during the Sixth Vancouver Chinese Film Festival in Canada,” said Vogiatzakis.

A Moment Of Happiness will be released nationwide on Jan 25, which is the first day of Chinese New Year.
