From the first WEA held in 2014, the awards has recognised hundreds of awardees, including those from Malaysia, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, Indonesia, Vietnam, Singapore, Russia, Australia, Africa and India.
WEA’s recognition criteria is based on five basic elements — education contribution, wisdom and cultural inheritance, corporate social responsibility, ecological safety and protection as well as innovation and creativity.
Introducing this year’s theme of “Flying against the wind, soaring in the sky for another thousand miles” was WEA chairman Datuk Cheah Choong Kit.
“The theme states how one should ‘break through’ from all crises and obstacles one faces in the journey, thereby paving the way to success,” he said.
“2019 may not have been a very fruitful year for many but 2020 brings a new ray of hope. Hence let’s walk together with a positive outlook.
“Whenever anyone faces adversity and grows with it, there shall be a path for breakthrough.”
Guest of honour Deputy Health Minister Dr Lee Boon Chye congratulated the winners from all over the world and acknowledged them for their contribution to society and countries.
