Jagdeep: The state government is allocating another RM20.38mil, making it a total RM43.67mil to benefit Penangites

THE Housing and Local Government Ministry has approved RM23.29mil in maintenance funds for 48 housing projects in Penang.

Penang housing, town, country planning and local government committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo said the funds were meant for the Housing Maintenance Programme (PPP) and the Malaysia Home Maintenance Fund (TPPM).

He said the amount given made up almost 25% of the RM100mil allocated by the Federal Government for PPP and TPPM funding schemes under Budget 2020.

“Of the RM23.29mil approved, RM14.51mil is for 15 PPP projects.

“The remaining RM8.78mil will be channelled to TPPM to fund maintenance projects of eligible private housing under the purview of local councils,” he said during a press conference at Komtar on Tuesday.

Last month, the state government had submitted a request for RM34.8mil in maintenance funds for 44 housing projects to the ministry.

Besides federal funds, Jagdeep said the state government would also be giving out RM20.38mil for three housing schemes this year.

He said RM8.58mil had been approved for repair and maintenance of public housing including People’s Housing Project (PPR), RM5mil for those under the state’s Rent-To-Own (RTO) scheme and RM6.8mil to maintain eligible private housing projects.

“As of Jan 14, a sum of RM43.67mil has been approved at state and federal levels to benefit Penangites,” he added.

Jagdeep had earlier said the state had spent RM232mil from 2008 until September last year for maintenance projects in all public housing schemes, local government housing schemes as well as eligible private housing schemes.
