There were 66 reports of water supply disruptions received by the board since June last year.

SIBU: Sibu Water Board (SWB) under the Sarawak Utility Ministry is committed to providing clean and treated water supply in line with the board’s vision of 100% water supply coverage by 2025.

As such, SWB said it takes complaints about water supply disruptions and low water pressure in the Pasai Besar area seriously.

In a press statement, it said the board received 66 reports of frequent pipeline problems in areas such as Teku, Bahagia Jaya, Quarry, Indah and Rantau Panjang since June last year.

The water supply problem in these areas was due to broken pipelines and low water pressure, especially during peak times, which had aggravated the situation.

“The board took immediate action to repair the broken pipes but when frequent pipe breaks occur, it may result in low or no water pressure,” it said in response to complaints by affected residents.

It pointed out that once the repairs were completed, the water supply would recover gradually.

On Dec 8 last year, following a report received from the residents of Teku Pasai, the board immediately sent tankers to the area to supply water to the affected residents, especially in the interior until the supply was restored.

In the statement, SWB said a People’s Project was underway and pipeline installation works along Ling Kai Cheng Road to Teku Pasai had been completed.

The new pipeline has been completed for testing and commissioning purposes.

The installation of the new pipeline is part of ongoing efforts to increase water pressure for better water supply to the growing number of consumers in Teku, Teku Pasai and Ulu Sg Red areas.

SWB wants the community to provide feedback if there are any issues regarding water supply or pipeline leaks in their area via the hotline number 084-216 311.
