Award recipients at the Platinum Business Awards 2019 Presentation and Gala Night in Petaling Jaya.

SEVENTY award recipients were feted at the Platinum Business Awards 2019 Presentation and Gala Night organised by SME Association of Malaysia.

Present to give out trophies and certificates to the recipients at Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre was Entrepreneur Development Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Yusof.

The awards, held for the 18th consecutive year with the tag line “Legacy and Integrity”, saw 80% of new recipients.

The event has garnered a strong following among SMEs as well as the general business community.

Nominees were judged on five core criteria — business; company philosophies; products, services and markets; operations and technologies; and financial performance.

The final list of winners was examined and approved by the selection board chaired by Tan Sri Dr Michael Yeoh.

The 2019 awards theme “The Next SMEs” expressed the revolutionary ideals of progressiveness, futurism and disruption.

SME Association of Malaysia national president Datuk Michael Kang, in his speech, appealed to SMEs in the audience to contribute productively to nation-building.

He urged the SMEs to utilise various initiatives provided by the Government in line with the transformation of SMEs towards Industry 4.0 and to boost SME contribution to GDP from the present 38% to 50% by 2030.

He also elaborated on the role of the association as a delivery partner in the implementation of strategic government policies relating to SMEs, serving as a link between the grassroots and Government to effectively channel policy deliverables to targeted beneficiaries.

The event’s organising chairman, Alan Tan, urged the award recipients to uncover their ability and talents as Malaysian SMEs could offer a great deal to the world.

More than 1,000 guests from the business sector, government agencies, major chambers of commerce, trade associations and foreign embassies were present.
