Festive decor inspires spirit of togetherness

IN WELCOMING 2020 and Chinese New Year of the Rat with happiness and optimism, MyTown Shopping Centre is displaying special hand-knitted Chinese zodiac animals as its main decoration to attract prosperity.

The colourful zodiac animals in various sizes can been seen at the shopping centre’s Central Town.

The highlight is the Blooming Wishes Tree – a cherry blossom tree that lights up when visitors step on the interactive platform that symbolises togetherness.

MyTown Shopping Centre manager Mohd Azhan Che Mat said there were various activities planned for shoppers during this festive period, including acrobatic and traditional lion dances,

drum performances, Chinese New Year coaster crochet workshop and children’s programmes.

He said exclusive dining sets were available to shoppers spending a minimum of RM488, including two tokens to play and win a zodiac plush toy at its MyTown Kasi Ong spot.

“We have more than 4,000 exclusive dining sets to give shoppers as a reward for their continuous support, ” he said, adding that 1,000 dining sets had already been redeemed.

He said shoppers could also receive one gold ang pow packet and a token for a minimum spend of RM138 in a single receipt.

MyTown marketing head Christopher Koh said so far, 1,200 gold ang pow packets had been distributed to shoppers.

“We have 11 videos of the 12 Chinese zodiacs presenting prosperous wishes, which are on our Facebook page.

“The Chinese proverbs have been translated to English and Malay to enable our multiracial community to understand Chinese culture and traditions, ” he added.

Koh said the Chinese New Year decoration at the shopping centre even inspired one man to propose to his girlfriend.

“We approved his request as he said it was the perfect spot for the marriage proposal, ” Koh added.

The mall’s Instagram-worthy outdoor Flower Tunner decoration has also garnered much attention.

Various retailers, 70% of which are local brands, are also offering promotions and discounts for Chinese New Year.
