Crowd usher in new year the fun way at Marina Puteri Harbour

ISKANDAR PUTERI: Marina Puteri Harbour was an ocean of people as a large crowd gathered in the area to welcome the new year with family and friends.

The crowd started arriving hours before midnight and were seen enjoying the music and performances at the celebration.

A launch ceremony for Visit Johor 2020 was also held at the event.

Among the crowd was V. Rehanna, 25, who came with her sister and some friends.

“We arrive from Penang at around noon for a short visit in Johor and found out about the event here.

“It is a great way to welcome New Year and this is definitely one that we will remember for years to come, ” she said.

Rehanna said her new year resolution was to read more books and study harder for her post-graduate degree.

Tourism Johor director Zihan Ismail said the celebrations were part of Visit Johor 2020.

“It marked the start of the campaign to inform the public of programmes planned for the year as well as the main destinations in the state.

“Among activities here included a special Jewel of Asia performance by Yayasan Warisan Johor and the first bus mapping projection show in Malaysia, ” she said.

Zihan said celebrities Joe Filzzow, DJ Dave T, Bunga Isme, the Couple Band and Orkes A Hizadin were at the celebration. “An inflatable balloon and drum circle were also available for children to have fun with, ” she said.

Visit Johor 2020 mascot, Joh and the 20th Malaysian Games (Sukma) mascot, Jimi were seen at the event.

“We welcomed visitors entering the state at all 13 entry points in Johor on the first day of 2020, ” said Zihan.

This included the Stulang Laut and Puteri Harbour ferry terminals, Senai International Airport, Larkin bus terminal as well as the Skudai and Tanjung Kupang toll plazas.

The celebration was launched by Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Dr Sahruddin Jamal, who also joined in the countdown before a fireworks show.

Besides Puteri Harbour, many welcomed the new year at places in the city including Dataran Bandaraya and Sutera Mall.
