Sarawak grapples with nature’s fury

Several parts of Sarawak, including Marudi, were hit by record flooding. — Filepic

IT HAS been a tempestuous year for Sarawak, ecologically at least. We have had forest fires raging non-stop in Miri and Kuala Baram for two months, floods “drowning” Marudi town for two weeks, high floodwaters inundating Baram settlements, massive soil erosion in Kuching, Matang and Bintulu... the list goes on.

To top it all off, the Air Pollutant Index hit almost 500 in Miri and Kuala Baram districts in July and August.
