SIBU: All 400 soldiers of 31st Brigade Infantry will have to undergo intensive training to conduct more effective operations especially at the Sarawak-Kalimantan border.

Its commander Datuk Johnny Lim Eng Seng said soldiers must be ready as they could be called into action at anytime.

He said this at a Christmas cum New Year gathering when asked about the brigade’s plans for 2020.

Lim said the Sarawak-Kalimantan border was dotted with difficult terrain and porous and as such its personnel must be up to their task during any operation.

“This brigade was formed in 2015 and we must carry out effective operations, ” he said.

On the strength of the force, he said it was always on the upward trend as the increase in personnel was important to carry out its operations at the border.

“We are not only increasing our personnel but also equipment and facilities, ” he said.

Lim said the brigade’s work covered helping the public in emergencies such as floods.

On the gathering, he said it was one of its activities to foster closer ties among the different races.

“I am also happy with the presence of Lanang MP Alice Lau as well as heads of the police and immigration departments, ” he added.
