NINE-year-old Muhammad Nu’man Fakhry Zukhari is looking forward to starting the school term with a new school uniform and new pair of shoes.

The SK Sg Gelugor pupil said he was thankful to be among the recipients of the state government’s school aid voucher of RM78 per pupil.

“Earlier, I was hoping that my mother would get me a new uniform and shoes as the present ones were worn out.

“So, receiving this voucher is like a dream come true for me, ” he said at the school aid voucher distribution at Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh’s service centre in Lintang Angsana, Air Itam, recently.

His mother Hakimi Hamid, 40, said Muhammad Nu’man wears the same uniform to school as it still can be used despite looking a little worn-out.

“We usually do not buy new school uniforms for him unless it is absolutely necessary.

“To us, as long as the uniform is still wearable, it is okay, ” said the housewife, adding that she was grateful for the aid.

Muhammad Nu’man was among 50 recipients of the school aid vouchers at the service centre.

Another recipient, Muhamad Izz Ukail Abdullah, eight, was equally joyful over the thought of getting new school uniform and shoes.

His mother, housewife Mazwati Hamid, 36, said their family did not believe in splurging annually on new school items for him and his brothers.

“We usually pass whatever my older two sons, aged 16 and 13, have used to Muhamad Izz.

“But looks like this time around, he will be getting his own school uniform and shoes with this voucher aid, ” she said.

Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh said a total of 770 pupils in his parliamentary constituency received the vouchers this year.

“We selected the recipients based on their income, and most of them are from families in the B40 group.

“The voucher allows them to buy school attire, socks and shoes from the designated stores and shops.

“I gave out RM64,380 worth of vouchers to 610 pupils under the different Village Community Management Councils in the area.

“Paya Terubong assemblyman Yeoh Soon Hin also gave out similar vouchers worth RM16,800 from the fund to the remaining 160 recipients in his constituency, ” he added.
