Sekuau residents to help fight crime the smart way

DALAT: Volunteers of the Smartphone Patrol (VSP) emergency safety plan will be introduced in the Sekuau resettlement scheme starting January.

Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) councillor Henry Kanyan Vincent Rawing said Sekuau residents could register their mobile phone numbers in the VSP to enable them to help the police curb crime in their areas.

“The VSP will enable them to send information on crime fast via a smartphone app.

“In addition, all longhouse chiefs in the Sekuau area are required to be the head of security in their respective areas when VSP is implemented” he said, adding that there were 64 houses in the Sekuau area.

He said this after making a courtesy call on the new Dalat District Police chief DSP Saga Chunggat at the Dalat District police headquarters.

Kanyan, who is also Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Youth exco member said various police programmes with the people would be held in the Sekuau resettlement scheme starting next year.

“Among them are drug-free youth programme, service recognition ceremony as well as the police and community sports that will take place in Rumah Seliau in Nanga Tebalai and Sekuau, ” he said.He urged the community to work together to fight crime.

“All must work together to fight crime which can happen to anyone, ” he said.

Members of the Sekuau Village Development and Security Committee were also present during the visit. – By ANDY CHUA
