IT is tough when you are married with children and have to juggle a high pressure job with your family.

And above all of that, take on a demanding masters programme.

Vithya Nanoo, 52, a senior programme manager at Flex Penang took up all the above challenges.

“I have been with the company for 20 years, starting as a buyer in 2000.

“I saw this programme as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that should not be missed.

“It was tough handling assignments, especially project papers, as I usually go home late at night and have to complete my coursework while getting some housework done as well, ” said Vithya.

She was speaking at the Flex Employees’ Graduation Ceremony after receiving her Executive Masters in Corporate Leadership (EMICL) at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) in Penang.

EMICL, which was incepted in Sept 2018, is a three-way collaboration between Flex, USM Graduate School of Business and ITD World.

“It was pretty taxing but I had full support from my husband and children and it is really gratifying to be here today after burning the midnight oil for more than a year, ” said Vithya.

Senior quality assurance manager Ang Chin Lai, 50, who has been with Flex for the last two decades, first doubted that he could complete his study modules.

“I am on-call and also have to see that my three children attend tuition classes and co-curricular activities regularly.

“But I diligently worked on my project papers, completing all of them on time.

“My wife, a homemaker, is my greatest strength, as this achievement would not have been possible without her and support from my colleagues, ” he said.

Flex vice-president of operations, Viswanathan Paramasivam said the EMICL programme was aimed at empowering employees to bring Flex to the next level of design to build, ship and deliver products.

Flex Asia marketing and communications senior director Ho Chu Hor, who spoke on behalf of the 20 graduates, said EMICL was a rigorous yet practical academic programme that taught many crucial leadership skills.

“Learning does not stop after we graduate from our EMICL, as at Flex, we believe in inclusive education, lifelong learning opportunities and decent work for all, ” added Ho.

The masters certificate was presented to the graduates by USM deputy vice-chancellor (academic and international affairs) Datuk Dr Ahmad Farhan Mohd Sadullah.
