RESIDENTS of Pangsapuri Sri Mekar in Mak Mandin, Butterworth had the time of their lives during a Christmas celebration organised by Gateway City Church Seberang Jaya.

More than 50 residents, including children, were entertained with Christmas songs and dance performances presented by church members, some as young as three years old, during the celebration on Sunday.

The children were excited when Santa Claus made an appearance, giving out gifts and goodie bags.

They also joined in the fun during the games session, including ‘decorating’ their friends, who posed as Christmas trees, with coloured paper and ribbons.

Organising chairperson Elizabeth Bani (pic) said this was the first time they organised a Christmas celebration outside the church.

“We decided to come out and celebrate with the community as we have always been celebrating Christmas in the church by ourselves.

“We would like to spread joy, peace and love to the people besides sharing the story of the birth of Jesus.

“We made a poster and pasted it at the lift and also personally invited the residents here.

“The children were very excited and asked if Santa Claus was coming, ” said the 63-year-old homemaker.

Elizabeth said her committee members met every weekend in December just to prepare for the celebration.

“Our members practised their performances during the weekends this month.

“It is a team effort as all of us got together and made this event a success.

“We decided to sing the Chinese version of several well-known Christmas songs to cater for the residents here.

“I am glad that many residents turned up and enjoyed the Yuletide season with us.

“There is no gap between us and the children were excited and joined in the dance and songs.

“It is definitely a memorable Christmas for us!” she exclaimed.

The residents were also treated to delicious homecooked food as they chatted with each other.
